๐ I have just completed a BSc in Neuroscience and Psychology at King's College London. Fascinated by the nebulous capacity of the brain, I was driven to explore human decision-making using complex analytical methods.
๐ Here I discovered the importance of statistics and machine learning in almost every industry. Data is pivotal in maximising our understanding of the world, from brain network connections to business connections.
โฎ๏ธ Despite my analytical background, I am interested in mental well-being. Having completed MHFA England's Mental Health First Aid course, I have a strong understanding of how poor mental health can impact individuals in the workplace. I have a keen interest in men's mental health, due to its poor clinical detection.
While I studied Psychology at King's, it was here that I gained vital face to face experience working with service users and stakeholders. From study recruitment to giving presentations, it was here that I took a more involved role and developed my soft skills.
I am most proud of writing our quarterly newsletter. This was an accessible newsletter for our service users that highlighted ongoing programmes, outlined future plans, and advertised studies. This helped boost service user sign up rate as it promoted our services to the local area, and it helped build professional connections with other organisations and funders, further supporting the organisational goals.
I was very proactive during this internship, seeking opporunties to grow and build connections. I sought training in mental health first aid which better allowed me to communicate with our vulnerable servie users. I also sought to work with other organisastions on joint projects to represent SVFP, such as in an Therapeutic Art therapy class for young children in the local area.
Connecting reserach with experience: my course uniquely taught me how the frontiers of neuroscience are connecting complex and abstract neural measures with qualitative experiences. For example, I completed projects with EEG, a brain scanning method, and translated the results into digestible insights and actionable recomendations.
Here I completed a lot of technical work with AI to analyse quantitative data. However, I also planned, disseminated, and rectified qualitative depression questionaires. I have a wide range of experience in research.
